This movie isn't awful because it's a cliche romcom or because none of the characters made sense, not even remotely. It's not awful because of it's poor writing and fake deep philosophy either (spoiler alert, no teenager talks like the people in this movie).
This movie is misery-inducing because of it's god awful, out of touch writing. The writers decided to gloss over the fact that Aster is cheating on her boyfriend the entire time and that Ellie and Paul are straight up stalking someone (for those who think this is cute, it's not. Go find a therapist). Not to mention this movie is an awful representation of consent. A "'''look'''''' is not consent. Ask people before you decide to kiss them. It's that easy.
The only good parts of this movie were Ellie's dad and her English teacher. If this is the standard for Netflix romcoms (and lets be real it is), then you need to look no further than your general Wattpad fanfiction for your screenplay needs.
