Honestly this and band of brothers are probably my favorite companion peices to watch around remembrance day. Band of brothers focusing on the soldiers perspective of WWII while the long long holiday offers the civilians (childs actually) perspective.
I was honestly very surprised to find out this was not based on a true story, but a peice of historical fiction. The showrunners clearly wanted to tell a respectful yet charming story and they did that. Episode 1 starts off as an innocent kids show while the later episodes change in both tone and subject matter fairly dramatically. With earlier episodes having the kids worry about some local farm boys destroying their secret fort, compared to later episodes worrying about the Nazis conscripting their older friends and family to the warfront.
If you give this show a chance I promise you, it will be a show well spent and a must watch for people of all ages. Especially for anyone who has an interest in the time or history period.
