Tom Wolfe’s book deserved better treatment than this. I understand that budgets are limited, and it is virtually impossible to fully translate the richly textured storyline in the book to television. But this series is so poorly done that one gets the impression that they just, barely, tried and then gave up completely.
The NY Times recently ran a piece on the “Mid” TV genre that seems to be sweeping OTT platforms. This series is not Mid TV; it’s far, far worse. Even people who haven’t read the original book will be left frustrated by how this progresses and ends.
Don’t waste your time on this, despite the star casting (Jeff Daniels, Diane Lane, Lucy Liu).
