This movie was simply amazing. Perfect ? No. But Halle Bailey preformed near perfectly in her role. I must admit some scenes with CGI could have been improved but to say it ruined the magic of watching the movie would be an exaggeration. I found the story to follow closely to the original with enough changes to the plot to make it feel new and worth watching. The music in this movie was beyond my expectations, all except Eric's solo. Clearly used auto-tune. Eric as a character however was wonderful, this movie really gave him a fleshed out personality. He wasn't just a Disney princess's lover, and he wasn't just a boy who needed to be king. He was a man with interest & heart. Another big thing with this film is the animals. Just like with The Lion King live-action, the animals seemed to have to little to no physical expression. BUT with this live-action the voice actors did a wonderful job at conveying emotion, even the CGI faces attempted to convey emotions without going against the whole realistic portrayal. It takes a minute but you get used to it quickly. I'd also like to add that the realistic animals did very much affect the Under The Sea song. It wasn't bad, it had color to it, but it was hard to achieve that animation level of color with realistic CGI animals. Sadly, the visuals for that song in particular were like a 6/10. On a much better note, Poor Unfortunate Souls & Part of Your World had amazing visuals. Especially Poor Unfortunate Souls, which would've been my favorite if Halle didn't deliver such an amazing vocal show. The way she used, what seems to be, her signature sort of fast pace stopping was amazing. It's hard to explain but it took a lot of talent to do so. Overall the movie was fun to watch, great story, great chemistry between Eric and Ariel, amazing songs, great visuals for most scenes, and Halle really did not deserve that backlash. I feel Disney just did a poor job with advertising the movie *correctly*. The trailer made it seem very dark and gloomy, which was far from the truth. Would I watch this movie again ? Yes. Not on a daily basis but like every other week. Would I listen to the music again ? I have the songs preformed by Halle saved on my playlist and I'm not even a hardcore Disney fan, just really loved the high notes of Part of Your World. In conclusion, fantastic movie, highly recommend watching it. If you simply don't like the movie that's fine, but to say Halle didn't make a good Ariel would be a lie. She was not white but she still had that je ne sais quoi to her that the original Ariel had. Plus if you don't like the movie you can still watch the original, watching the modern take is not going to ruin your childhood.
