I went to the last night of the Birmingham shows with 4 friends and honestly most of us found the whole experience a bit bizarre. It was extremely shouty and over-acted and as many have said, it really came off as a final performance for a BTEC A-level project. The script was contrived in trying to come off as current and relevant, and there was so much shouting of lines that it was hard to want to stay tuned into what was being said.
Instead of using the script and acting to try and build any type of psychological tension or spookiness, they used lots of strangely timed jump scares, dry ice lighting flashes and inexplicably, fox noises.
We all reflected on some of the clever nuances dotted throughout the play after it was done and we knew the plot twist, which is where the one star comes from. Other than that, I can’t really say anything else that was enjoyed during the performance.
We sat through almost 2 hours for a 2 minute plot twist at the very end and to me, that isn’t a great use of time so I wouldn’t recommend it at all. If you’re not that fussed about well executed and engaging theatre though, please do knock yourself out with this show!
