I read that the book is great, so I wanted to watch the movie. But what a big disappointment! It's just a film bloated with scenes with no clear storytelling and people doing stuff with no apparent contribution to move the story.
Dull conversations that should have been edited out, bees that get into a car, a bird that gets killed with a book, swimming, squash, chess, people putting documents on a shelf, and people taking documents out of another shelf. Forty minutes into the movie, there's still no clear direction.
I believe people are giving five stars either because they feel intellectually above the crowd that watches Marvel movies—nothing against it— or because they already read the book, so they understand what is happening. All good with that. But, if the intention was to make the movie version of a great book, this is a disservice even a wonderful cast can't fix.
