Sorry though I was to see DD depart [such a hard act to follow], I was very pleased to see a woman replace him & thought FB's first programme was good. However, I've been reluctantly revising this opinion ever since & last night's sorry performance epitomised my objections.FB is paid to chair, not host / entertain us.
Last night's programme could have been renamed 'The Nigel Farage Show'. He rampaged over his fellow contributors, perpetually interupting & shouting over them rudely & at length, & FB made no effort to curtail him; she wholly failed to chair the debate. The result was not an interesting political discussion, as it has been since RD's time, but a self-serving Farage diatribe.
FB frequently interupts her guests [though, interestingly enough, not Farage], but all too often her interuptions are facile quips or draw attention to herself, rather than to the issue. She behaves as though her job is to be a fetching, twee, lightweight host, rather than a well-informed, hard-nosed arbiter, intent on pursuing answers. I also think that her reactionary political opinions are blatently evident at times. The programme is greatly diminished, partisan, irritating, no longer worth watching. Such a shame.
