- 🌟 🌟 As a movie
- 🌟 as a Bond movie. It would have been an alright movie if it was just an action movie, not part of the beloved Bond film series. It simply just didn’t feel like a Bond movie at all. It's distracting as it branched out too much from the 007 styles everyone knows and loves.
The essence of what makes a Bond movie was missing. The gadget appearances were slim, and even the famous “Bond, James Bond" line wasn’t said with the usual gusto that makes the line so iconic. The disappointment was even worse considering the script was edited by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who's known for her great writing. This just shows how poor of a movie it really was. It’s possible she didn’t really have a whole lot to do with it, and her name was brought on just to drum up popularity and views.
I felt the whole movie was just a prelude to how the next one will be and was missing its own story. Too many changes happened without the right timing. James Bond becoming softer is not a bad thing, but it’s a natural part of being human to change gradually. He went from being the hardened spy to a caring and sensitive father in an instant. This felt unnatural, rushed, and wasn’t a proper character transition at all.
Regarding the major changes of who 007 will be in the future that was brought up in the film: I understand that media has to be more inclusive, and I’m not against this, but it has to be done in a way that fits and shows progression. The blatant way they tried to do this was not subtle, it was cringy and ruined the entire film. The main point of the movie was to pander to the extremist social justice warriors and was no longer a story about the spy with a license to kill.
I have no idea why so many people write great reviews and even mention Daniel Graig as he's the character. It's not about the actor (who's a great one) it's about the character he portrays and the character is James Bond, and he is the intelligent officer of the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) who's at the service of England, even though he might be saving the world, and in this movie, they even mention that he "went off the radar" because he was working for the CIA. 007 did work with the CIA, not for the CIA.
If anything, this movie did a disservice to Daniel Craig.
There wasn't even a Bond girl in this movie. I feel that many fans of the Bond franchise weren't too happy and it shows in the polarized reviews, and that's a testament. Also, it was so long, and for what?
