Rocky Aur Rani ki Prem Katha...as filmy and unbelievablebthe title sounds..I had just gone for this KJo movie expecting the glamour, the drama, the over the top sets and outstandingly gorgeous wardrobe and beautiful cast. But surprisingly it was much more than that. Karan Johar's movies most of the times have a progressive storyline..if you remember kabhi alvida na kehna was based on how a perfect marriage can loose it's shine when there is no chemistry or fire between the couple...that movie got a lot of bashing but we figured out that it is the truth. You can fall out of a love marriage and you can be physically and mentally compatible with someone else even if you are married. It is normal. Coming back to Rocky & Rani...Rocky is supa dupa cute ...his character barring his loud dressing style and super adorable accent..is something that this generation should aspire to be. Eventhough he was not so educated he was open to learning new things that have been etched in his upbringing. He was not blinded by the regresdive culture of his parents. Our society doesn’t really believe in unity in diversity particularly when it comes to marriages. There are instances innthe movie on misogyny, casual racism and fat shaming, and the film goes on to say that we can learn to live with each other’s imperfections. But ofcourse the Punjabi households will feel that it is a feminist movie. But I think movies like these should be made to educate the the highly educated people in our society who believe that a family is run by a man and the woman has to run the kitchen. There was a scene in the movie where Alia tells the woman in the household that there is a difference between a wife's duty and slavery. A wife is expected to give hot rotis to the husband but she can have cold chapatis instead. A woman's dream is not only to get married..their self worth is much more than that. Their identity is not attached to their husband's only they have a stand in this man's world too. A woman is expected to accept the husband's house as her house in just a days time but a husband can never accept the wife's house as his house ....why so? All these regressive ideologies were busted and I hope it drills some sense to the society we live in today! Overall a must must watch!
