Okay! First and foremost, what a stunning production. The practical sets and effects are utterly stunning - if I'm not mistaken from the interviews, the Road set is the size of a football field. Just utterly stunning. The cast has clearly been given the opportunity to collaborate with each other and the production team in a way that elevates the piece exponentially. The performances Aubrey Plaza, Ali Ann, and Kathryn Hahn turned in for Episode 4 were stunning, Debra Jo Rupp was as always fabulous, EVERY shot Patti LuPone has to pull out a joke is taken, and - I'll be honest I had my doubts in episode two - but Sasheer Zamata's performance in episode three was lovely and I cannot wait to see more. Every piece of media for this from marketing to music releases to merchandising has been such a well concerted effort to maintain a consistent presentation of this show (sans the FunkoPop problem but that's to be expected).
After skimming a handful of less than stellar reviews for Agatha, I think I've seen maybe a handful of valid complaints but overwhelmingly there's a film/tv literacy issue. Several people criticize the script for being contradictory or unclear, and not fully understanding that a script isn't just what's in the dialogue, but what's written in the action (i.e. "Jenn look what you did" being 'contradictory' to Jenn's bound state until you put it into the context of her own confusion at this, paired with the looks between Rio and Agatha implying that it might have actually been Rio). Additionally criticisms of the dialogue flow or cinematic choices in the Agnes of Westview episode or within the trials when they are clearly referential genre based writing (which knowing Disney's budget, more than likely they brought on additional cowriters to make those specific pastiches and jokes to an audience that understands the media reference - who are more than likely not credited as writers on the project due to the writers are allowed to be credited on union film and television projects.
Personally, I have felt like it's been a stunning watch so far and I was among the 9.3M viewers that first week and will be sat with them for every week it runs.
