In defense of those who say they found the character cringey and unrealistic, it has nothing to do with her being black and well adjusted. The problem is she shouldn't be. For one, she's a military brat, her parents mention that they moved around a lot. Yet Naomi seems to have developed strong bonded relationships with almost everyone around her. She mentions living in Tokyo and learning how to skate there. That doesn't make a lot of sense, a person like that would have almost no friends, simply because she wouldn't have the time to make them in a few months. She's also adopted in a multiracial marriage, living in a mostly white suburban town. She's not only the most popular person in school, the whole town loves her. This makes her transition into the whole "Who Am I?" self-discovery unnecessary because her life is good and she has no reason to question it. Yet, the writers rather than make her socially awkward, they create a ridiculous fight that includes Superman in which Naomi faints because of the "vibrations" .. oh and she no longer needs her glasses. 🤣🤣🤣. Listen, people who aren't fans of comics need to stay far far away from projects like this. Stick to vampires vs werewolves, witches, magic and dance competition movies. Diversity and inclusion are fine as long as they don't overshadow the story. No one cares about Tony Stark and Pepper's relationship, we want to see Iron Man. Then there are little things, like "who the hell is braiding Naomi's hair in that all white town?" Why is every shirt she owns a crop or mid drift? Why does her boyfriend appear to be wearing lip gloss? Why does Dee/Hawkman who is from a planet of warriors practice Japanese martial arts and wear tattoos?..and also appear to have arched eyebrows and make-up? The girl crush also seems unnecessary. Beyond that, the writing is awful, like the writers struggle to create dialog. The amount of times Naomi gets that look on her face and says, "Someone's coming!!" could be its own drinking game. I also find it weird that Naomi's parents are always together like Shaggy and Scooby in every scene. The story is all over the place, every character is largely undeveloped. The dialog is repetitive..."Someone's coming, I have powers, Have you been following us?, Stay away from him, he's dangerous and you're not human, you're from another universe" over and over again...not to mention the corny sountrack, it's not just bad it's really bad.
