I grew up living the life of the original book, I love seeing this being reinvented for millennials. I love the cameos of the original film's music and the little deviations from the book. Zoe Kravitz is way, way cooler than I ever was, but I think Da'Vine Joy Randolph is the bigger star here. I get it, "female Jack Black" is probably how the role was cast, but she brought way more than that to this character. She had me laughing out loud from the first episode. I hope to see her in more motion picture comedy roles.

I cannot believe how bad the acting is! Actually yes I can, I acted in an indie movie in my mid-20s and it was really hard and I was really terrible. But I was a graphic designer so it stands to reason. But this show, damn, every single actor is pretty bad. How? How isn't even ONE of them good? I assume they are acting as a career so they should, minimally, be better than me?? But it's hypocritical to harshly judge people who are doing something that I myself cannot do any better. So I'm curious about the shooting, maybe it was on a super fast schedule with no time for practicing lines, or they were just drunk and messing around the whole time making fun of eachother? Who knows. In any case, I am a huuuge fan of Lost, and the first episode copies Lost pretty closely, but about 1/5 the quality of Lost. Everyone starts fighting immediately and it's ridiculously not believable at all. It's more like... if you took the cast of Love Island (the people as characters of course, not the people themselves who actually are great people) and put them on a deserted island with no memory. The types of drama and decisions and issues you'd expect from those people is basically what this show is. In fact, I gave this 4 stars because I like the theme and when I started to think of it as a Love Island challenge where all the islanders had to act in a series, it became pretty enjoyable. Will update after more episodes.
