This book achieves its author's stated purpose of condensing his 1999 book into an easier to read version. In my opinion, it is essential reading for any New Zealander who wishes to educate themselves with an unbiased, factual explanation of the 40 years of the country's pre-Treaty history and the events that lead to the Maori asking the British for a treaty. The author was appointed to the Waitangi Tribunal by the Hon. Dr Sir Pita Sharples in 2011.
