Dwight Gillespie

Having lost my 7 year old son in an accident I can say that this is perhaps the closest portrayal of life in the aftermath. I thought it was a beautifully written and superbly acted movie. I don’t know how I would have felt had I not experienced the loss firsthand. It is a very heavy theme with very little upward lift. It starts heavy and, despite the appearance of hope at the end, ends heavy. As it points out, even the final scene is a bit of a facade. But it’s all quite accurate. At least from my perspective. It painfully depicts the enormity of the loss.

I was in an accident. I was driving. Both my children died. This was Will Smith’s best performance. I felt every bit of his character and the power of guilt and redemption.
