I think this game deserves a 2.5/5 but that’s not an option so here are my pros and cons:
Pros:
-different choices to age up. I think that is an interesting addition to this game.
-fairly easy to learn, especially if you have played other RTS games
-decent variety of civilizations
-trade was done differently, might be more of a neutral than a pro.
-no need for building resource buildings. Villagers automatically store resources.
Cons:
-Units cost more population than I feel they are worth
-can’t change the population. Stuck at 200 and with the units taking up so much of the population it is very hard to create a big army.
- much more micromanaging required because the army is so small
-the game feels clunky.
- very slow moving army units
-cannot queue up more military units once population is maxed.
-the introduction of the “deck” is very confusing at first, and deciding the best cards for a deck is a process…
-upgrades are much more expensive and not all in the buildings that would make sense.
-campaign is eh
Overall if you want to play a RTS game, Age of Empires II is way better. I even think 4 is better, which may be an unpopular opinion.
If some of these cons were fixed I’d spend more time playing this game.
