As others have said, the animation and style was expertly crafted. The show looks awesome. Unfortunately, there is nothing else to praise about this monstrosity. The obvious, there is no He-Man, there isn't even any Skeletor. The main figures of this show are nonexistent or otherwise sidelined for other characters. Really I should have said the only character, Teela. Sure she is supported by other flawless female characters and the occasional doffus male character, but for all purposes, the universe revolves around her. Which could have still been a decent story, if she wasn't written so boringly. There is no growth or development Teela goes through, nothing to make her likable or relatable. She starts out with all the power, accolades are thrown upon her, and nothing else matters but her. If you watch the first episode, stop after that one, she even says "He who?" When the magic is stripped away, she still has the power, she loses nothing. Sure she walks out of her position, but that's after telling the grieving king and queen to basically go pound sand. Truly Teela suffers greatly here.
Now I tried to watch through the second episode, but there was no conflict, no challenge, no drive to keep me interested. The writers just gave Teela complete mastery at the start, and she breezes through all obstacles. Find a stolen relic, no problem. Infiltrate...dig into Skull Mountain, eh why not. Clobber a room full of cultists and retrieve the chalice, easy as a Sunday stroll. There's no suspense, no drama, to captivate or cause you to cheer for any other these characters.
This story could have worked, if the writers would have committed to telling a story. I should do the show justice and finish the other episodes, but I find it hard it a low priority. For if the writers didn't care to tell a worthy story, why should I care to watch a worthless tale?
