Stray is an impressive and ambitious title launched from a developer that many may be unfamiliar with.
The main "problem" that some are coming up with is that Stray isn't just a cat simulator, even though it feels that way at first. This is a fact that may deter some, but personally, I love what they did with the idea.
Stray has an incredible story, beautifully designed environments (oh boy, incredible graphics and artwork), and an adorable protagonist that cares more than any real cat would. I'm also a sucker for orange cats. This game tells a very well thought out story without any real dialogue, which is impressive. Some things did get lost for me but I could attribute that to me not being the most observant person ever.
I can't truthfully review this game without mentioning that the ending left a lot to be desired. It seemed to stray far from the original objective, no pun intended. At least, what I thought would be the main objective. I have hopes that additional story will be added in to continue the story, as it felt that I didn't get the closure I was hoping for. I know I'm not alone in that.
All in all, the experience was fantastic and my only real complaints are that the game was a bit short, doesn't offer much replay value besides getting 100% of the trophies/achievements, and the ending felt rushed and unsatisfying.
I will undoubtedly recommend this title. Even with a few faults, it's something you don't want to miss. Did I mention you can meow whenever you want and scratch things? Even push things off counters and ledges.
In all seriousness, Stray may not be worth AAA prices, but considering it comes in at a modest $40 CAD, it is well worth the money in my opinion. I look forward to seeing more from BlueTwelve and Annapurna in the future. Hopefully some Stray DLC for starters.
