I was lucky enough to see Top Gun Maverick last night in a pre-release screening. The sound and visuals are just stunning, and the homage to the original is perfect. The story continuity with links to the original is just right, but I recommend re-watching the original because there are some subtle threads throughout. The new generation of aviators are refreshing, the graceful handling of Val Kilmer's cameo, and the reprise of some of the most iconic scenes from the original brought back so many memories. This is a movie that MUST be seen on the big screen, with full Dolby sound to appreciate the incredible in-cockpit cinematography. Lady Gaga's song and Hans Zimmer's soundtrack are sublime. There are tears and laughs and thrills throughout. I will be seeing it in theatre again!
