I just starting watching this. A bit dramatic for my tastes but I am enjoying the visuals of HK. There is enough story line to be curious.
Movies are often more drama than the book as with a book we create our own version of the story. Thus far it is a limited view of life in HK but that is to be expected as most people who have not visited and only see it via movies, don't limit yourself. Hong Kong Island and places like the Peak are but a small piece of what is Hong Kong. There is a wide range of cost of living options and some expats do have their expenses covered which leads to such a lifestyle, some do not. The dynamic of the domestic helper is also often a new experience, also a wide range of experiences. The description does brief that it is a tight knit group of people so we will share their experience for the entertainment. I do not even feel the need to compare it to real life there. I have lived outside my home country 25+ years, there are always tight knit groups of expats.
My take on the quarantine was that it was a necessary process to get home. A small blip in comparison of things going on in the world as were the HK lockdowns. It took me four months and many tests and ticket changes so also do not appreciate the go around in that area. However the place where I did quarantine had very good food and I was able to walk home after my stay.
My hope in all of this is that it will make people curious to visit, curious on the tapestry of life that exists there. I am wondering if they will encounter any feral cattle in the New Territories as an example.
