Derry Girls is absolutely cracker!! I loved every minute of this show, from beginning to end, and I never thought I would be enamored by such a wily group of Northern Irish girls (including James, obviously), navigating their way through both the political climate of the '90's and the crisis of adolescence. Every single character was iconic in their own way, and the manner in which relationship dynamics progressed throughout the show was fascinating. From the cinematography, to the music, to the important message paired with raunchy and at times bizarre humor the show purports, the show both pulls at your heartstrings while giving you some of the best laughs you've ever had. From the sassy Sister Michael to the chatty Uncle Colm, each character holds their own and adds to the complex atmosphere of Londonderry. Truly, the show writers and producers did a phenomenal job creating this show, and the effort they put into each episode really shows. It's one of those shows you could easily watch in one sitting or put on in the background if you wanted to, but I'd suggest you don't, because each episode emphasizes a different lesson about friendship, family dynamics, and in the long run, peace, highlighting the differences and eventual union between Catholics and Protestants, ending with the Good Friday Agreement. The show's episodic nature makes it fresh and unexpected, not to mention their accents (10/10), and all in all, this show will give you a different change of pace while remaining humbly impactful and powerful. So, on behalf of Erin, Orla, Clare, Michelle, and James, you should watch Derry Girls. It is class. After all, if the wains recommend it, you can't say no :)
