I was quite looking forward to this film. But as it progressed I was forcing myself to stick with it.It started quite promisingly and the three children and the now-grown-up sister were amusing and engaging but ,as it neared it's conclusion,I was thinking,"please stop".
I did see the original film as a child and remember being enthralled by the film score and the dancing. So I was trying to put myself in the position of a child seeing it now but just couldn't imagine them remembering any of the songs. They might like the animation scenes but there's nothing to set it apart from other films.
I thought that the actors did ok with the script they were given but the big musical numbers were boring and went on pointlessly long.
Yes,Dick Van Dyke saving the day at the end was a nice touch but I'd had enough by then anyway.
The original film was part of that sixties feel good factor, this sadly has a bit of Brexit about it.
