I absolutely love this show-one of my fave comedies. It is only up to Season 2, Episode 5 as I write this, and I just can't wait every week to watch. This is my fave, just started 3 weeks ago, even though there are a lot of shows I haven't seen. I love so much on YT, and I only started having Netflix 2 months ago (plus I have Amazon Prime, Showtime, and all of a $200 per month Optimum cable package (Long Island, NY) so there is a LOT to watch but I still wait every week for this, even over John Oliver.
The acting is incredible, everyone. Of course, the patriarch of the family, and the cast, is John Goodman, who plays the father, Eli Gemstone. He is fabulous acting in a different way than you remember on Roseanne, also great. Here, he almost plays like the straight man to his insane family and others around him, including an old 'friend' played by Eric Roberts. However, he isn't just sitting back while the insanity goes on around him, he acts like you would expect a classic actor to craft his art, as you see everything pictured on his face...from the way he adores his deceased wife, who we see a number of times in full episodes, not flashbacks, so we get to see everything that happened with her. The writer, Danny Goodman, plays the eldest son with perfect comedic timing-he is a flamboyant wacko, and Eli is just shaking his head at the idiot kids he and his beloved deceased wife raised.
You HAVE to trust me and watch this. Whether you like or hate organized religion with big churches involved, but especially the latter, you will love this. It doesn't really have much to do with religion, actually, anyway believe it or not. The whole family, except Eli and hs wife, are sooo not religious, they just love the money!!!
