Whiplash is a truly incredible movie highlighting the dark side of the road to greatness. It perfectly portrays the “obsessed artist” trope in a way that is both unique and a little disturbing. Miles Teller’s performance is absolutely flawless but seems to often be cast aside in comparison to JK Simmons, who’s performance as Fletcher leaves the audience fuming with rage in the best way possible. Teller’s performance as Andrew is very empowering and seeing his spiral from ambitious prodigy to disturbingly obsessed artist is realistic and leaves the audience shook. The cinematography is superb and the director has a way of making the ending seem bittersweet and constantly keeping the audience on their feet. Overall, Whiplash is a movie that everyone should watch and a movie that will always make you come back.
