Full Disclosure- i love me a good biopic.
As many other reviewers have already commented, the acting and production of this movie are top notch. But what makes “Oppenheimer” so compelling is the emotion it invokes through its characters. There’s an obvious protagonist (spoiler alert!) and villain but the complexity of each character has you questioning motives right up until the very end. The movie does a great job of humanizing and redeeming Oppenheimer and his legacy, at the expense of the powerful but petty antagonist that tried to tear him down.
I was especially moved by Oppenheimer’s friends (mostly from the scientific community) that defended him. He was clearly a brilliant and principled (in his own way) man that struggled with the consequences of the creation of his “art”.
I saw this movie in an IMAX theater (although wasn’t 70 mm) and recommend it if available…. sound and screen effects (especially the “nuclear” scenes) definitely added to the overall experience.
