This movie had so much potential but it was a failed money-grab. The return of so many of the original cast is incredible, but it was completely wasted on this film.
Firstly, the family characters were ALL unlikeable. Especially Phoebe, she's a rude know-it-all who somehow ruins everything. She has zero redeemable characteristics. Her mom and stepdad (?) are annoying too, and careless. Their relationship dynamics all felt incredibly forced with no authenticity. Lastly, why is this family the ghostbusters? They're really bad at it.
The other characters, specifically all of the original ghostbusters do not make any sense. If Winston is so rich, why are his only employees two young people instead of trained adults? Why are they in an abandoned building? Further, why are there so many snarky teen characters in this movie?? Every character was quippy and sassy, if you can't write characters with depth, just say so.
Lastly, can we PLEASE stop using CGI? It looks terrible. Want to know what made the first movies a success? The PRACTICAL EFFECTS. Also, the authenticity and likeability of the characters. And the fact that we rooted for them. This movie lacked all of those elements.
