I am fortunate to live near Powell river BC Canada. Our home is close to a beach by a stretch of water about three miles wide between the mainland and Texada island. A few days ago I was walking on the beach with my dog when I heard the sound of a Humpback whale, I looked to see not one but three of them surfacing and blowing columns of vapour. We see them often but mostly just one at a time. Orcas were most often seen here but in the past couple of years their numbers have declined and now Hump backs are more common, Marleys book *A whale for the killing” is a sad book , but a story that opens one mind to the appreciation of these magnificent animals, and compassion for a form of intelligent form of life that is close to human in awareness, it creates the hope that they will be protected for ever.
