I read this book lying in a hospital bed in Manchester for some weeks having parted company very suddenly from a Triumph Bonneville back in 1981. So I had some free time! It actually affected me, the beutifully written fantasy transporting me, but more than that, even the hippy greaser I was could discern the message, the morality, philosophy and wisdom. The book was written with kindness I think, but against the backdrop of a constantly sombre world. Merlin is the very embodiment of wisdom, enlightenment and gentleness. Arthur is a gullible hero, brave, always trying to do good but ultimately betrayed but the future king is definitely about hope, that all evil passes, too, and we can all be Arthur. There is plenty of merriment, lots of fun and light relief. but the central message is:
Right over Might.
