I read the reviews initially - loads of critics called it 'absurd', 'uneven', 'no story' etc. Contrary, to that the movie is really, really good - it takes up a legend which many won't be familiar with and does a pretty good job of describing it - I have a feeling this is why so many of the popular dailies called it 'absurd', it doesn't buy into a typical plotline, rather the narrator inserts himself into an existing story. It's not the usual track of a haunted house, object or possession. It's not a typical horror movie, though it has good jump scares and unusual turns. What I really liked about the movie was it's mood (like WWitch, Woman in Black, Requiem, The Ritual) : it is very atmospheric, dingy and other worldly, felt like reading a good horror story or listening to someone narrate one. The pace is really tight, and I felt it does a pretty good job of explaining the background (Indian audience, please don't leave behind your brain while watching this one). The acting and soundtrack is awesome, I feel it competes with so many Hollywood/ international horror films. Considering it was quite misunderstood by the typical Indian movie goer audience and critics, this one and such movies may as well release on streaming websites, as it's not typical Bollywood fare. It leaves you with many questions, and not many answers, and for a horror fan, a lot of night time reading on legends/ myths.
