Slow to begin and unclear throughout. One gets the impression that the 'storyline' was SO familiar to the production team (JK) that they failed to look through the eyes of a kid viewing 'IF' for the first time, or appreciate that audiences would be forced to do mental gymnastic trying to figure out the confusing disconnected scenes and subjects without simple inclusions that explain or the benefit of the film-maker's pre-existing knowledge. It's SO important to SET THE CONTEXT simply and clearly and that was missing. Also, the child (4yrs) we watched 'IF' with commented several times that the Ryan Reynolds character was bad-tempered, cross and grumpy all the time (an adult might describe him as permanently and inexplicably p*ssed off all the way through) and that RR didn't like Bea (the main child character). RR finally smiled a bit towards the end. The Movie was OK, some nice sweet special effects, bits of it were fun and parts were verging on menacing issues by implication... it's unwise to portray any child wandering from home in an unknown neighbourhood in the the dark or spending time with an adult character they barely know going to strange places...
The publicity gave the impression 'IF' was going to be really fabulous movie for adults and children and it really wasn't : (
