Christmas is meant to spark some magic in your life at the end of a long year. Even after you grow to adulthood, Christmas movies and such are meant to bring back some of that magical feeling.
I truly enjoyed this movie because the music and dancing was uplifting and the story had a way of speaking to the struggles and hopefully inspire estranged family to reach out to each other this holiday season.
Was the film perfect? Absolutely not. Sure there could have been some more work done to the scripting, but I don't think the script was the issue, I think some key things may have been left on the cutting room floor. I will put this on the production and editing. Sometimes it felt like they were going to say more or elaborate on something, but then the movie moves on.
Was it worth bad? Worth 3 or less stars? NOOOOOO. It earned at least 4 stars. It was an absolutely fun musical with some top notch stars and newcomers. The music was awesome, the mix of elements from different time periods were brought together well.
After reading other people's reviews, it seems like folks don't know that musical has music, and a lot of it. Some of those low stars had a problem with the main cast being black (seriously?). Still others said that the other new Christmas movie was far better (Jingle Jangle has a 92% rating on RT while the other new Netflix Christmas movie has 31%, ijs).
If you're upset that the cast is black, the movie isn't the problem. If you think Christmas movies are corny, don't watch this one. If you don't like musicals, don't watch this one. HOWEVER, if you're not a total Grinch, sit back and enjoy the movie. Try to find some of that childhood magic again. Enjoy the show.
