As others have noted, the best part of the show so far is definitely the VFX. It's very cool to see places like Moria and Lindon come alive onscreen. It doesn't follow the storyline as well as it could, but Amazon doesn't have rights to Silmarillion, just the RoK appendices so they are limited. There is some out-of-place dialog and over-acting, but not so much it spoils your enjoyment. If you take it for what it is, a derivative work based on LoTR, it's fun and enjoyable. If you wanted 2nd age Silmarillion on film, you'll be disappointed for sure (just read below, lol). As a lifelong Tolkien fan (read the books cover-to-cover over a dozen times) I like it so far. Not 5* but still quite good.
