This was probably one of my favorite movies of 2022. As a bonafide 12 y/o girl, and let me say- I have never related to anything more than this.
1. As soon as the scene started when the were simping for the cashier guy, a was hooked. I honestly don’t understand all of these bad reviews. Those ‘sexy’ and ‘inappropriate’ drawings were nothing (I draw fanart and can attest, there’s always worse.)! Go on the internet for goodness sake. And I do the same, and I can speak for a lot of young teens on the Internet who are into fanfiction and fandoms.
2. PERIODS. ARE. NOT. SEXUAL. OR. SEXUALIZING. TEEN. GIRLS.
I got my period when I was roughly 10, and periods are a normal (somewhat awkward) thing to talk about in my family. My mom educated my brother (8 at the time of writing) and I for as long as I can remember. From what she tells me, she had a bad experience with her first period, and was extremely alarmed at her predicament (caused by her mom not talking about it!). When I got mine, I knew exactly what it was, and when I saw blood I was just: 👁👄👁
3. The one thing I don’t entirely agree with is the glorification of rebellion. Not saying I didn’t/don’t do it, it just feels like a bit of a stretch that they have to present it like ‘oh wow she’s a teen let her do what she wants-‘. Like I don’t condone that, but honestly, it’s not that bad.
TL;DR:
Mom, 12f, and 8m watched and really enjoyed. The bad reviews make me want to punch the reviewers through the screen, and the movie isn’t inappropriate in any way.
Now go rethink your life choices if you gave this movie a bad review, you pretentious, cowardly, persnickety Karen.
