I watched The Empty Man as a joke alongside my girlfriend and her bff. I figured it'd be a cringe fest like "The Bye Bye Man" and "Slenderman". With low expectations I was shocked by how good it was, but also genuinely creepy. The girls were screaming at Google to turn on the lights as we sat in the dark waiting for the credits to roll.
The plot twists are unexpected, the monster is a bit creepy and only used sparingly as the majority of the movie is actually based on a cult. The blood and gore are used sparingly so when it is used it's well implemented and leaves an impact.
