Stevens is the consumate server to the aristocracy of Britain, giving his whole life and his loyalty to another human being while submersing his own feelings and desires. It is a delicate balancing act between comedy of manners and poignant lost chances. Kazuo tip -toes along this wire with skill and precision and pulls the reader into Steven's past memories and recollections as we travel along this road trip with him. This is a book to be savored, discussed and re-read several times as one will always find another theme, story or idea that one missed the 1st time. An excellent book club suggestion.
