The Remains of the Day touched me deeply. Stevens is the consumate server to the aristocracy of Britain, giving his whole life and his loyalty to another human being while submersing his own feelings and desires. It is a delicate balancing act between comedy of manners and poignant lost chances.
Kazuo tip -toes along this wire with skill and precision and pulls the reader into Steven's past memories and recollections as we travel along this road trip with him.
This is a book to be savored, discussed and re-read several times as one will always find another theme, story or idea that one missed the 1st time.
An excellent book club suggestion.
