4 out of 5 stars
Barbie is a surprisingly delightful and thought-provoking film that subverts expectations at every turn. Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach's script is clever, funny, and surprisingly insightful, exploring themes of identity, self-acceptance, and the importance of being true to yourself.
Margot Robbie is perfectly cast as Barbie, bringing a warmth, wit, and intelligence to the role that is rarely seen in live-action adaptations of toy-based properties. Ryan Gosling is also excellent as Ken, who is surprisingly complex and nuanced character in this film.
The supporting cast is also strong, with America Ferrera, Simu Liu, and Kate McKinnon all delivering memorable performances. The film's visuals are also stunning, with Gerwig and her collaborators creating a truly unique and imaginative world for Barbie and her friends to inhabit.
Overall, Barbie is a must-see for fans of Gerwig's work, as well as anyone looking for a smart, funny, and visually stunning film. While it is a bit too long and could have benefited from some tighter editing, the film's positive message and heartwarming moments make it a worthwhile watch.
