Hollywood romanticing stalking and domestic abuse, again.
I had wanted to watch this movie for a long time. I was so disappointed.
Adaline is a young woman who experiences an accident which prevents her from ageing. She is forced to leave her life and daughter behind when she runs from the FBI. At no point does the love for her daughter or her own career/accomplishments stop her from running. Instead a man who stalks her does.
This man sees her at work, and then begins to find ways to interact with her. He attends a party she is at, he forces his way into her lift, when she refuses to give him her number, he holds on to her cab. When he still isn't able to get her number, he turns up to her work on the basis of making a charitable donation. He then refuses to follow through with this donation unless she goes out with him. He also turns up at her home after getting her address without her permission from work. This is not romance, this is stalking. Stalking is incredibly dangerous.
He also tells her he loves her within a very short time. This is also a red flag for domestic abuse.
If Hollywood keeps peddling warning signs as romance, women (and men) continue to be put as risk of domestic abuse.
