I went into this film fully invested in the feminist message, but it's just executed in such a clunky way.
Many of the reviews here reference the fact that Gerwig takes on such a mammoth issue, so there's no breathing space for character development or thought provocation.
Your'e not invited to celebrate the feminist message, its rammed down your throat.
The main irony, is that there isn't a single female 'real world' character with an empowered status... so the Barbie-land lawyers and doctors etc are in those positions because they 'dreamed it up', it doesn't attempt to demonstrate the true struggle that women go though to get to positions of power at all... The closest we get to this is a mumsy portrayal of Ruth Handler 'who does all her best thinking in the kitchen' (?!) instead of the boardroom badass she actually was!
