For all of the 5 star reviewers ragging on the 1 star critics, please stop. Artistic interpretation or a “different point of view of the typical UFO movie” rationale does not change the fact the movie was boring. Yes, we all love Jordan Peele but that doesn’t give him a pass to make a really bad movie.
My expectations are borderline nonexistent for character development in scary movies so the fact every character felt like cardboard cutouts wasn’t a deal breaker. And, the actors did the best they could with a weak, meandering script.
Scary? The best action sequence by far were the Gordy scenes. Otherwise the hairs on my arm fell asleep. The “we can’t tame predators undercurrent” is a red hearing. Nowhere in the main story did anyone mention they wanted to tame the people-eating, father-killing alien. OJ, Emmie, Angel and Antlers (I can find no words to explain Antlers final scene or his wretched acting) wanted a freakin’ picture. And the alien digesting people? BBC’s Planet Earth makes animals eating other animals electrifying, not NOPE.
One final thought, what was up with the title cards before each major scene shift? It was a pedestrian way to setup a scene. It lacked creativity not unlike the movie.
Did the movie pass or fail? Plot – fail. Character development – fail. Scary (or interesting) alien – fail. Entertaining – fail. Makes one want to reexamine their movie choices – pass.
