I have a few issues with this book
The first one and most important is that all women are portrayed in a negative way.
From the protagonist, Alice to the doctor’s wife, Kate and the manager of the hospital- all of them carry too many negative stereotypes and characteristics.
Even when he tries to paint a positive picture this is based on a sallow characteristic or a weakness.
Second of all, we get it, the writer is Cypriot. There is too much of an effort to include Greek mythology parts and greek words and greek phrases - even the name Diomedes is a flex. Something like Nikos or Kostas would have felt more natural. Also I wonder why the main character that the other protagonist is looking up to is a man…hmmmmm
Third, timelines absolutely make no sense. I even tried to map this out and it doesn’t work out. Is the protagonist a time traveller?
And lastly, too much effort to connect the story of Alkestis with the story of the book - felt forced and while it made sense I had a feeling that again, he is trying to bring Greek mythology into the mix
Apart from that, I read it fast, I enjoyed it up till some point before starting to get annoyed and I liked the psychological theories explained
