Minnal Murali didn’t hit me that well, to be quite frank.
For the first superhero movie in Malayalam, I was ready to be amazed but sadly that didn’t happen. I found the movie to be a mix of Gundala, Nolan’s Batman, Shazam and above all, Toby’s Spider-Man.
The plot was the same, the incidents and instances were really similar. As someone who has grown up watching Superhero movies, I could relate almost every incident in this movie to the exact incidents of the above-mentioned movies and that was a huge disappointment. The story lacked originality. There I said it.
Some of the characters were poorly written. Dialogues too. They merely existed. It’s a shame.
The only part I loved was the love story between the antagonist and his childhood crush (I’m sorry I can’t remember their names). That story ended quite tragically though it had all my heart.
The guy who played as Kurukkanmoola’s Magneto outshined Tovino in performance. Also, I was expecting the iconic Basil’s wit and humour elements in the movie which could’ve been what, if added, made Minnal Murali standout - though the plot being a big Malayali rip-off.
Overall, the Magneto meets Gundala with Spider-Man movie incidents, meets Scarecrow turned Harvey two face who burns Gotham after losing Rachel, only to be killed off by Batman, the watchful protector, silent guardian of Kurukkanmoola movie was disappointing, still a one time watch.
