An uncomfortable look into chance romantic encounters. I cringe at the thought that any of my most special moments, in reality, consisted of the low-quality banter and other cultural cliches showcased in this film. And the weird race takes..I feel like they tried to flip it on its head but it came off sooo tone-deaf. Maybe it's just because I didn't find Jamie Chung very relatable or likeable? No rom-com is complete without a cringey flea market shopping and bargaining montage..ugh. And then Chung's character wants to call the police on a stall merchant, criticizes another stall's English? What is going on here with her character. A lot of the scenes felt written solely for Chung's character's ego, but there was like never a break from her being unlikeable.
Additionally, like zero chemistry between the leads, so their confusion over emotionally cheating, hurting their partners, etc...I was like where did that come from.
WHAT was that ending??????????? I feel like I missed the point. ๐คท๐
Not an entirely irredeemable movie...if you are in an interracial relationship and want to feel better about how you ignore or hate your own culture...this is for you.
