Absolutely pleasantly surprised to have a 1933 SINGER Le Mans featured on this programme.
I had one of these way back in 1958.
It was in the old tram sheds in Dover- unregistered and just left there. I was only 18 at the time and had learned to drive/obtain my license on an Austin 8 but was already something of a petrol head.
It took only relatively minor work to get the Singer roadworthy. The wooden floor was replaced with new timber, a couple of gauges replaced and (if I remember correctly) new water pump seals.
A drive from Dover to St Margarets Bay proved that the knock-on wheels were problematic. While driving up a hill, I recall seeing a wheel overtake me and thinking "hell, that looks like one of mine" just before the vehicle crashed onto the road. No big deal! just put it back on and continue.
Another learning experience occurred when an engine oil pipe burst, spraying black oil all down the side of a brand new Jaguar. The owner was not impressed.
When I left for Australia in 1963, I returned the car, as was, to the same shed where I found it. Had I brought it with me, it would now be worth thousands.
Now I live in the bush and drive a 32 YO Range Rover- yet another classic car.
