I thought the premise was sound. There were many ways to get to understand this alien artifact, and what great journey the writers could take us on as they explored all aspects of it. But I felt as though the writers were the 8th or 9th graders. How do you expect or understand an entire crew, aboard a very very important mission, to use expletives about every 5th to 7th word. There were so many juvenile antics. Aren't astronauts and scientists taught to work together, in a generally peaceful setting, to figure out problems? Also they resorted to extreme violence the second a problem arose. The captain did not communicate with her crew in a way that would make a person feel that they were a great part of the team. That's why the Star Trek, and Stargate SG1 etc., shows lasted so many years. The characters showed a morality, reasonableness, self control and patience; as well as strength and calm under stress. Thus then all the fantastic sci fi elements could then really shine thru -- as they excite, shock and frighten us -- and make us want more from the creative minds that developed Another Life.
