Cinematography is wonderful. Visually this is a great movie. Although Woody is not in this movie personally, Owen Wilson does his best version of Allen Neurotic misunderstood artist - check One dimensional female lead - check Pretentious dialog - check I really want to find a Woody Allen movie that I like but so far, no luck

Bottom line, this movie was weak in many ways Female characters serve two roles - sex object for older men or prostitute. One exists merely to have a laugh that her fiance can't stand. Only Selena Gomez escapes this one-dimensional treatment however even she is asked why she never hooked up with her sisters older ex-boyfriend. Male characters are all different versions of Allen with two looking like him at different stages of life. Each seems locked in an effort to be the most neurotic version of Allen possible and in that they all succeed. New York (white New York at least) is fetishized in a manner seemingly intended to make anyone who doesn't feel that New York is the only place to be feel like a hopeless rube consigned to a Central Park carriage ride I watched this movie hoping that at last I would see a Woody Allen movie that I enjoyed, sadly not the case. In light of the revelations about Allen near the time this movie was meant to be released the whole thing just comes of as gross and disturbing.
