An amazing portrayal of people who only see others as tools to satisfy their own interests. The location, with industry set in a beautiful waterfront landscape, reflects the contrast of the characters, who are potentially beautiful people betrayed by their own selfishness. The directing and acting are superb, with each character quickly establishing their own persona as individuals who then never really connect except for selfish reasons. Like a jigsaw puzzle whose image can be seen from a distance, on closer examination, they are all ultimately alone. The lead character is a study of narcissism, a person who pulls into his orbit those around him who feed off the lies he lives. There's a reason Trump is often heard speaking on TV, and it's not political.

Bateman plays a rather tragic character who, while burned by the superficiality and self-centerdness of humanity, manages to give it back in kind. He's not a likeable character in a cast of unlikable characters. Yet he's honest about it. Don't watch if you will take Bateman's corruption of youth as more than a role. Do watch if you can see the deeper message that some of us are just better at being misanthropic than others.
