(13 year old who had to read this in english. just a warning) PS: and spoilers, if you care)
I'm not a big fan of rap AND basketball, or poetry for that matter (I'm more of an anime/teen fiction/cartoons person). But here let me just say this: the plot is very cringe and cheesy, and plot-wise there was little foundation to begin with. The main guy gets ditched by his brother, and his dad died. And what you got left in this book to fill the holes is a large chunk of melodrama in between that genuinely fails to appeal to me. The melodrama is so cringe...it cannot be described in words. The authour, could have AT LEAST continue to the brothers healing from the pain of the death of their father, but no. It just had to end right at the damned godforsaken funeral.
However, I can understand that this book is liked by other guys my age (even though most of my class genuinely thinks similar stuff), because of the little (IF ANY) words, and the rap-like song that flows through the book. And how the whole book is revolved around a sport and balls (why do people like this?).
Edit: Also the character growth has completely dispersed. No character growth here. All growth is completely void and most characters are one-sided. Even the main guy who's supposed to have all the emotional growth is one-sided. At least the author managed to achieve a point: You can have melodrama without growth
