The Rings of Power tries to be a lot of things at once, so the pacing really suffers. While jumping through many storylines keeps the adhd crowed engaged, it makes it difficult to get immersed in the characters. Dialect at times feel wooden and plodding. Whenever something exciting happens, it quickly ends and transitions to another storyline which ruins the flow. The visuals are grand and eye wateringly beautiful, if not to oversaturated and pompous. Close up shots tend to blur the background which pull the viewers out of immersion because it's so obviously set pieces with CGI.
Amazon has gone to great lengths to be inclusive, which is fine except for some characters. Dwarves spend their whole lives underground, so how would one develope the dark pigment to their skin if no need for sun protection? The Harfoots are such blatant representations of racist and stereotypical views of Irish settlers coming to America, it's alarming that nobody has noticed this. Is it because they are white? The elves are less than special Gil Galad looks like a bassist from a 90s pop band and Celebrimbor is a Roman Senate member from Gladiator. Harfoot scenes are painful to watch, wasting the great acting talents of the cast members there.
Enjoy the Game of Thrones type plot and story switching. It has potential, but it needs to go somewhere fast
