The Food Network should be incredibly proud of themselves -- NOT! Not only did they produce a competition that I’m embarrassed to admit I watched almost to the bitter end (I decided Romy had the right idea) but even I, as an amateur baker, found many of the challenges demeaning and childish — I can’t imagine how the competitors who have dedicated their lives to perfecting their art must have felt. While I agree the winner can produce a beautiful cake I don’t think her efforts were on the same level as everyone else. How many times have we all heard the judges say “This is the Spring Baking CHAMPIONSHIP!!!” Apparently they needed to remind themselves more often. And I think that Molly Yeh, while perfectly pleasant, would be a better fit hosting another type of show. I don’t think I’ll be watching future competitions.
