Midwest Shrink

After trudging through this overly long movie last night, it's hard for me to believe it won the Palme d"Or at Cannes and is nominated for an Oscar. The first third of the film is sexy and cute, as Ani and Ivan get to know each other and strike up a deal to spend the week together. The movie then gets bogged down in an endless, tiresome search for Ivan. Overall, the dialogue is weak with lots of yelling substituting for any real content. By the end of the film, I didn't care about any of the characters or what was going to happen to them. Many times, after watching a great film, I'll find myself thinking about it for days afterward. Today, the only time the film popped into my head I thought about what a waste of time and ten dollars it was.

This show is so bad I don't think I'll be able to finish it; I'm on episode 4. The cast is excellent, the story is intriguing and sexy, but the writing is PAINFUL. It's so overwrought, and the voiceover, my God the voiceover, is idiotic. What a wasted opportunity!

The acting in this movie is atrocious because the script is atrocious. No one in real life talks like the actors in this movie. It's so bad. Every character is wooden and two dimensional. This could have been a really good movie but it was apparently slapped together with no effort to make the acting believable.
