When I looked up the age rating of this book it stated it was 22+. After reading it, I would definitely say this is more of a 16+ book. I am going to keep this in my classroom and label it a Red-Dot book, meaning my middle schoolers need to have a permission slip signed but a high schooler has the ability to read it. The only reason that is because it talks about how people die and some slight “spicy” scenes have good imagery to them.
I was able to quickly get “into” this book. It has a good couple of chapters that hook you in. Although, the climax was a bit predictable. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a thriller, but more suspenseful. The vocabulary was decent, not too intense. Making it an easier read.
This was the first book by Tess Gerritsen that I read. She was able to give a very detailed imagery aspect to each of the different scenes to really help bring this together. There wasn’t much of a humor aspect or a comical relief point to this book. If I would have to compare this to a movie/TV series I would definitely say the early CSI series. Which makes sense because looking into Getritsen’s bio, she is a physician and the author who inspired the TV series, “Rizzoli & Isles.” Which are based off of her own “Rizzoli & Isles” characters in her books.
Overall, I would would rate this a 4/5. Good, easy weekend(if you aren’t doing anything) read. Keeps you interested through out the book. Not so much of a thriller, more suspense. Won’t make you question all of the noises you hear in the dark.
